Description
DescriptionAntique Belle Epoque era French sterling silver box, tabatiere, perhaps a patch or pill box. With elegant serpentine shaping and a charming embossed motif of a poppy flower decorating the lid. Opening to reveal a beautiful gilt vermeil interior. In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with use and age. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, in use from 1838, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her denoting a silver content of .950/1000 (of 95% silver and a higher grade of finesse than the .925 standard for sterling silver). Bearing a maker's mark for silversmith Paul Tallois, active circa 1907 at 19 boulevard de Strasbourg, Paris. Measures 2 1/8" length x 1 3/4" width x 7/8" height. Weighs 30 grams.
