According to Howard (1974), arms are of Braithwaite, of Yorkshire and Westmorland: Gules, on a chevron argent, three crosses crosslet fitched sable; crest. A greyhoud couchant argent, collared and lined gules. Howard stated that the Chinese Export set was made for Major General Sir John Braithwaite, Commander in Chief of the Coast of Coromandel in India. Created Baronet in 1802 and died in 1803. The entire service was formerly in the Diamond Collection and part of it was in the Alexandra Palace (Palace of the People) in London that was destroyed by fire on June 9, 1873. In 1795, the family ordered soft paste porcelain service pieces from Caughley to match the CEP service (see Victoria and Albert Museum 3717-1901, 3716-1901)
